Neighbors of the Past
- City of Austin

position: co-creative director, developer

Explore your historical neighbors' stories in Austin, TX

The City of Austin asked two teams in my class to create an experience that highlights the City of Austin cemetery, and the cultural and demographical shift of Austin residences since 1920. We developed an interactive game in Unity that introduces 7th and 8th graders to their nearest historical neighbor based on the location they enter. The student can then travel along a map of Austin in their neighborhood to understand a historical figures impact on Austin in present day, while seeing what those locations looked like back then. We included collaborative and collecting game elements in this narrative choice-based game in order for the user to return to the historical figure to unlock other facets and identify which topics the users lean towards.
